Courthouse Chatter: *Robitis Outbreak In New Haven

Who Doesn’t Like Shorts?

What got into the New Haven state judge who kicked citizens wearing shorts out of court recently?

Could it have been ... Robitis?

Seems some of those folks were poor and they had traveled by bus for court appearances. Defense lawyers complained and the chief court administrator got involved.

Did the new and improved court system add fashion consultant to the job description for these mini-monarchs?

Judges and other unaccountable public officials need to be reminded – often – that they do not own the public space in which they serve. We own it.

* Robitis: an affliction developed by otherwise semi-normal people wearing robes; undue deference and power go to their heads and they think they have actually become smarter since being frocked.
