Oh, I can't wait for tomorrow evening's season finale of "Big Love". That is Tony (Roman) DiPace and the P & Z Commission working their "religion". I wonder if there are several versions of the show's ending, you know, like the Soprano's.

That meeting's gotta be more awe inspiring that the Democrats slate for Fall. They're running a bunch of "newcomers", yet most have ties to Mayor Pat. One is the daughter of current council member. One "runs" one of the Town's little leagues?

Again, when are folks gonna "see" through this stuff. While many will say they're new faces, they're still tied in with old politics. And will certainly try to "maintain" the current culture (which is a total mess).

    From today's Courant -
"The newcomers running with Apruzzese-Desroches and Hall are Thomas Arnone, Beverly Mangini-Pajor and Vincent Grady. Arnone is the president of the Thompsonville Little League, Grady is a commissioner for the Enfield Fire District and Mangini-Pajor is a political newcomer and daughter of town council member Cynthia Mangini."

    >> Mangini-Pajor is a political newcomer and daughter of town council member Cynthia Mangini."

This is just too funny for words. Isn't Mangini the council member who said that Pat Tallarita was like a brother to her? So does that make her daughter (who's running now as newcomer for BOE) like the Mayor's "niece"??

Oh yeah, that's just what Enfield needs. More cronies.

"Wake up" there, Enfield Residents and pull the Republican lever in Nov. Put an end to this nonsense. We can't afford much more.

    >>> Arnone is the president of the Thompsonville Little League,

Ain't this guy is a good friend of the mayor's? The council recently voted to pay his league's electric bill so that his little leaguers can play under the lights.

Likely got more than a few friends on the current Town Council cuz its doubtful too many others in Enfield would get such royal treatment from council.

Not sure too how being the president of little league makes one a suitable candidate for Board of Education? But yup, he's got friends in current political realm. So not really a newcomer.

Mayor T may not be running, but looks like he's got friends who are running.

You've got to be kidding me. Are you really attaching a compromise decision to pay the Little League's electric bill to dirty politics? Get a life. That was a nice accomodation, and a compromise, by the town council to help out a very worthwhile civic organization. I'm sure anyone representing the Little League would have gotten similar treatment. You guys don't know when to stop.

Take a good look @ that proposed Democratic ticket for upcoming election. Enfield's Dep Mayor is a good friend of Mayor T. Mayor T, Crowley and Mangini were all photographed after last election "victory", puffing on cigars .. clearly a pretty tight bunch.

Given how poorly the last couple of years have gone for Enfield, Democrats need to wake up, clean house. Residents are sick and tired of these people doing their friends "favors" @ the expense of taxpayers. This ain't a social club.

    >>> That was a nice accomodation, and a compromise, by the town council to help out a very worthwhile civic organization.

Ironic ain't it, that Enfield town officials didn't come to the aid of the Sisters (aren't they too "worthwhile") when they were being harassed, but they'd agree to pick up the electric tab for one particular organization. Do they pick up the tabs for all other civic groups, or only those that have close ties to the current council? Cuz what's good for one, should be good for all. But it ain't. Not under this current administration.

People aren't gonna "stop" questioning motives until all of this "cronie-ism" is exposed. People have a right to know where their tax $$$ are being spent, and what their elected officials are up to. Its their right.

Many will say that young Kiner is running on his family's name. Says he loves "public service", but at his tender age, exactly how much public service has he, himself, done? Or is he merely mirroring his father's sentiments??

Those far, not very impressed with the Democratic selections for fall election. Don't think any of them can make voters forget what current bunch has done to Enfield.

Unless one of the Felician Sisters is running, and as a Democrat, I won't be voting for the "donkey slate".

    > attaching a compromise decision

Am fairly new to all this politic stuff (just started reading this blog). Can someone explain to me what a "compromise decision" is? Because I don't understand why the town council would have to compromise anything for one particular organization. Who's in charge the council or the organization?

Candidates should welcome all comments and any questions about their ongoing and prior decisions. If they have nothing to hide.

    Anonymous said...

    >>>> I'm sure anyone representing the Little League would have gotten similar treatment.

Is that "anyone representing that particular little league organization", or "any of the other little league organizations", would have received similar treatment?

How many current council members either played in this particular league, or had/have kids playing in this particular league? Did those members excuse themselves from the vote? Probably not.
Ain't that a conflict of interest?
Or is that concept completely beyond the grasp of most serving in this gov?

Thanks to this blog, and the many readers, this stuff is being brought to light before the next election. Keep it up.

HELP OUT A WORTHWILE CIVIC ORGANIZATION....NOTHING AND i MEAN NOTHING IS DONE IN THE TOWN OF ENFIELD WITHOUT SOME REASON DOWN THE ROAD..ITS A FAVOR, DEAL, OR FUTURE INVESTMENT VOTE IN SOMETHING. BET ON THAT!

Talk about overreacting. Did this discussion hit a nerve or something? From the tone of this discussion, and blog in general, people want to hear more.

    > Get a life

Would love to except Enfield's rising taxes have prevented me from doing anything 'cept keeping my head above water. Can't afford to sign up my kids for little league. But my taxes are helping others to play at night? Do the public schools' even have games at night?

    Isn't that nepotism?

Sure. I'm sure that it was also a nice accomodation when the town awarded contracts to Enfield Builders, back in the '80s and '90s. Who could ever think it dirty politics that they got the contracts they did? It was all mere coincidence that a company owned by the Petronella family got massive contracts when Ann Marie Petronella was mayor. You guys don't know when to stop- it was all mere coincidence- the same way Little League Lights were coincidence. What could ever make you believe that it resulted from dirty politics? There's no cronyism in Enfield.

The democrats were corrupt 15 years ago and they're just as corrupt today. Nothing ever changes here in town.

    Anonymous said...

    >> a compromise decision

Ya got that 1/2 right. The Town Council obviously "compromised" their decision making abilities when one civic organization was able to convince them to spend tax dollars on something that benefits a very small portion of the community. Especially when Council had the nerve to increase taxes this year.

Am headed to Town Hall now to pay 2007 real estate taxes and I can assure you that I'd much prefer that money to remain in my pocket, as opposed to going to a little league.

Worthwile organization yes but MAKE NO BONES about it nobody does anything in Enfield for no reason. It was done as a future favor, vote, or political move for a well you owe me down the road. But it's not done to be nice-- it's never done to be nice it's done for the next deal. Enfield, Enfield, Enfield what have we become?

    Anonymous said...

President of the Little league yes, So Pat T got him on Wetlands and then asked him to run for the council then the school board So why does someone need all these friends on these town boards? I really don't want to believe all this stuff is about control, power and ego.

The $2,000 it will cost to light the Little League field amounts to pennies a year for each taxpayer. So if you want to waste your time crying about pennies, by all means do so. There are reasonable people who would argue it's nice to live in a town that's willing to spend a little money to provide kids an enjoyable experience.

Honestly, nearly every town in the state struggles with high property taxes. Connecticut's property tax system strains municipalities. It's a bad system. The teachers unions and binding arbitration don't help matters. This won't change if the Republicans run the Town Council. The high taxes aren't going away. And the Little League light issue just really isn't that big a deal.

    >> Isn't that nepotism?

    Yup.
    Tallaritas, Kiners, Jarmocs, & now
    Manginis. Democrats just love to
keep their politics in "the family".

    >> There are reasonable people who would argue it's nice to live in a town that's willing to spend a little money to provide kids an enjoyable experience.

    Enfield's public school athletic's
don't provide lighted fields (not yet, anyways, maybe Fermi and Enfield High will before the next decade is here). Reasonable people would agrue that all Enfield kids should be on receiving end of Council's generousity. Not just the friends of the mayor's.

    Anonymous said...

    >>> And the Little League light issue just really isn't that big a deal.

Exactly what some Dems would like taxpayers to believe. That nothing is a big deal. This "compromise decision" was done right before the Council vote to sell Asnuntuck (where this lighted field is located) to State.

Now the Town will have to lease back the field for this organization's use. How much sense did it make to "construct" such a field on what will be State property? Especially when there are plenty of elementary schools'
ball fields, that could have been
renovated with lights, and not cost
the town a penny to lease back.

Little things can add up to big disasters. Problem has been that most people don't take the time to question the little things that occur right under their noses. And politicians bank on that.

    >> This won't change if the Republicans run the Town Council.

Wanna bet that a Republican Mayor won't be picking a fight in front of small children, in the local supermarket?

Vote Republican. If for no other reason then Republican's have a much better image in town. They're not seen as wasteful or bullies (or appointing their kids & friends to subcommittees).

    Anonymous said...

    >> The $2,000 it will cost to light the Little League field amounts to pennies a year for each taxpayer.

That's pennies I'd prefer to have in my pocket. To help pay my electric bill.

If you want to help these kids play
baseball at night, then donate to the cause. But don't expect me to. My electric bill is almost too high for me to handle on my own. Who's going to help me once I can't afford to pay for my lights?

    Anonymous said...

    >>> The $2,000 it will cost to light the Little League field

Did the Council agree to pay this group's electric bill, or did they agree to give them $2,000? If they agreed to pay their electric bill, well, its gonna be more than $2,000 simply because the price of electricity is out of sight.

There are other little leagues using Powder Hollow and Mark Twain
ball fields. Do these little leagues get financial help from Council?

    > NOTHING AND i MEAN NOTHING IS DONE IN THE TOWN OF ENFIELD WITHOUT SOME REASON DOWN THE ROAD

Ain't that the truth. And that's how political corruption tends to start. A favor here, a favor there, before ya know it, its turn a cheek to this, turn a cheek to that.

Former Gov Rowland's downfall was a hot tub and some new cabinets. Little, seemingly incidently, things have a way of catching up with politicans who "play" fast and loose with the rules.

Best thing about this blog, is it brings to light these little things faster than traditional media. Go bloggers!

    >> There are reasonable people who would argue it's nice to live in a town

Would be nicer to live in a town
that didn't have polluted athletic fields at its public high school, or washed out roads from
floods that occurred almost 2 year ago. Would be nice not to see so many "moved" or "out of business" signs out front of the town's larger employers.

Would be nice to live in a town that didn't have a slew of "for Sale" on every street, or foreclosure notices in the local newspapers.

Would be nice to live in a town where one doesn't have a family member or close friend on a committee, doing them favors.

Would be nice to have a council
that didn't feel they could help themselves to so-call employee discounts @ Bernie's. Or would've stopped hassling a religious order over a long standing parking lot.

    >> Grady is a commissioner for the Enfield Fire District

That's the guy who didn't tell
Democratic nomination committee about his arrest. And their wonderful screening process didn't uncover that fact. I'll be voting Republican thanks to newcomers Arnone, Mangini-Pajor and Grady.

Stopped by Town Hall to pay my taxes yesterday afternoon, and after all this discussion regarding little league lights, noticed that the field next to Town Hall, also has lights.

What teams play @ that field since Higgins has been closed for years? Its not likely any of other elementary schools have a field with lights.

Who's paying for the lights on field next to Town Hall? And for what organization?

Speaking of blunders, what's the hold up with Weymouth Rd construction? That little strip of road has been torn up now for 4 weeks. Would have been faster to build a whole new road, as opposed to repairing this 1/2 mile stretch.

You may be somewhat right there on the property taxes but I'll bet you a coffee they will at least take the time and TRY to lower our taxes. And I'll bet you another coffee the Republicans won't dodge important issues here in town, as the Democraps have so many times, because it's the politically correct thing to do. And I'll bet you yet another coffee that the Republicans won't be in the paper or on a blog for shady or potentially illegal behavior having anything to do with the offices they would hold.

Look, I have voted mostly Democrat my entire life. As I see it, the only way to make any changes in the town of Enfield is to send a strong message. For me, the strong message is voting Republican right across the board. Maybe if that happens the Democrats will get the message; we are sick of the status quo from this once great party. Sick of the status quo of people who care more about their political futures than the Town's future. Sick of the status quo of people who care more about what the office they hold can do for them and not what they can do for the office they hold. I'm sick of the old school politics and backroom bargaining going on in Enfield...time to change. If (and hopefully) only for election, I'm NOT considering a single Democrat candidate and voting straight Republican...and hope they can bring Enfield back up to what it used to be not long ago.

    >Shallow Tiramasu reports the Simon Road property mentioned in recent comments is actually next to the property that was cited for pollution.

RIGHT ON. I too have been a life long Democrat, but what's transpired the last couple of years in Enfield has made me ashamed to admit it.

So I too will be voting Republican in November and hopefully more Democrats will to. Its the only way to get the attention of the current bunch of cronies, and make them realize all they've done wrong to Enfield.

Hopefully, in time, being a Democrat in Enfield will be looked upon again as an honorable thing.
But in the meantime, its time to vote Republicans in.

    Per July 28-29 JI,

    >> Hilinski said the Democrats wouldn't have nominated Grady if they had been aware of the arrest.

"I think a person with that type of background should step down from running for that office," Hilinski said.

Another whooping black eye for Enfield Dems. First, a BOE candidate doesn't disclose an arrest, and then once its known about the Dep Mayor calls for his withdrawal.

BUT now in a 180 flipflop, the Enfield Dems will support this candidate cuz that's what Dems do -support their party w/o regardless of what's best for the voters. Can you believe that - Dems more interested in getting their candidates elected. Not bothering to check out their candidates' background ahead of time??

Just one more reason to vote Republican this November. Clearly, the Enfield Dems are only interested in furthering their personal political ambitions. They're not interested in what's best for Enfield community.
