Enfield Trash Barrel Talk Evolves Into School Board Audit Discussion

Enfield BOE member, Tom Arnone is certainly making a name for himself. Yesterday's JI editiorial

points out Mr Arnone was out of line at a recent BOE presentation. Some Enfield officials never cease to amaze the general public. "think before you speak" should be their mantra.

"Board member Thomas Arnone launched a lengthy, fact-free berating of Fusco, capped off with a tactic straight from the left's playbook: an ad-hominem attack. The retired educator's activism, Arnone claimed, was designed to "instill fear in people to sell books."

Dr. Fusco is a retired school superintendent, as well as a published author. Whether one agrees or disagrees with his views or his book, it is a free country. Its shameful to hear a BOE member would behave so unprofessionally.

    What's Enfield's Mr Arnone's claim to fame?

    ahhhh... 'think before you speak'
    wise words indeed...

then again Arnone isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the bunch...

the rude comments seem to reinforce that working at the sewage plant has made him a s$!%head in more than one way

Arnone is Tallarita's parting gift to the republicans.

It surprises me to see the democrats censoring Fusco. It's not a very liberal thing to do.

    "Liberal, Adj.
    1. Showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant of his opponent's opinions".
    2. Having political or social views favoring reform and progress.
    3. Tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition." Source: Websters Online Dictionary

Show that to all the washed out hippies at Blue Back Square.

It just goes to show that the democrats are a bunch of hypocritical girly-men who don't mean what they say.

These days, it seems like, "Do as I say, not as I do is their motto."

I guess that's because they can't credibly use "Happy Days are Here Again". Sure aren't happy days for CT working stiffs.

If liberal means broad minded and tolerant of opposition, the republicans actually take the cake here. They have moral fiber to them and can give some and take some. The democrats have become a bunch of pansies who need to make a show of mock offense when things go bad.

God forbid they get drafted... they'd spend all the time bickering about who was wrong the last time, instead of actually fighting the war.

Don't be confused-- Arnone is not on the BOE because of his lame softball league. He's there as a union operative representing the interest of unions, not the interests of students or citizens.

Then again professionalism- hah! Remember that the ETA is part of AFT, not the NEA. They behave like the teamsters- buying the access of democratic pols to get special insterest legislation through the state house.

    "What's Enfield's Mr Arnone's claim to fame?"

He's part of the good old boys club- grew up in Tallaritaville, then known as Thompsonville.

Daddy was a hot shot cop who thought he was tough shit for arresting the potheads and sending them to jail. He never got the distributors, however.
I guess his biggest claim to fame is being a friend of Mayor Pat. After that, perhaps, running the little league.

    Defiaately one of the insiders.

But didn't he graduate from East Windsor High? What school bus runs from T-ville to East Windsor?

    "What's Enfield's Mr Arnone's claim to fame?"

It would appear being president of
a little league in Enfield. The
Enfield Press ran a photo of Mr Arnone accepting a check from Rockville Bank branch manager/Enfield Council member William Ragno for that little league's lighting expenses.

How many other organizations in Enfield that would love to be on the receiving end of that generousity?

Now that Town of Enfield has sold the property that this little league field resides on, to State/Asnuntuck Community College (http://www.journalinquirer.com/site/index.cfm?newsid=19210539&BRD=985&PAG=461&dept_id=569380&rfi=8), maybe he'll buddy-buddy up to Asnuntuck for additional funds?

So he's there for the benefit of the unions, not the students'?
According to Tuesday's Hartford Courant's CT STATS: (p2), the average salary of Enfield teachers & administrators, is $62,411.

Appears the unions are already doing a very good job taking care of their employees. Tend to doubt the average Enfield-er is making $62K a year. Then again, someone earlier had posted that Enfield has town trash collectors making $40-60K a year.

The Dr. Fusco presentation was a joke. I went in with an open mind and with high hopes that this self proclaimed expert might provide wisdom and insights that would help us save our failing education system. Well, I was extremely disappointed.

Here is a man with advanced degrees (Dr.?) and a wealth of public experience who had difficulty crafting a message and presenting it in a way that was constructive and in a way that inspired confidence. Instead he was angry and degrading. His anecdotes were self serving and his message confused. I was disappointed that I wasted 2 hours that I can never recapture.

Buried deep deep in his content was a message of controls and generally accepted business practice. You had to squint your eyes real hard and listen to every 6th word to hear it, but it was there. I'd suggest to Mr Fusco that if he wants to take this show on the road that he rethink his message, refine his presentation, and polish is delivery. Only then he may get the right people to listen.

Mr. Arnone's reaction was expected. He lashed out at someone who on several occasions belittled the Board and all but called them ignorant. Sorry Mr. Fusco, we all don't have advanced college degrees.

As for the board or ed and more specifically the majority, they're sadly confused as to what problem they're trying to solve. They want the corruption gone, right? Do they feel they're being intentially scammed by the administration? If so, then why haven't they made any changes in the administration? Andre, Sue and Chuck have been there for awhile so what's their excuse now that they have the majority. All the posturing when in the minority was some ruse? No. I smell the stink of fear on our majority.

Better yet, let's say in all of their auditing and searching, the Board finds a million dollars. Wow! It is a nice sum of money, right? But don't buy balloons and party favors just yet. It's a one time find, sort of like finding a $5 bill on the ground. It is some short term relief but does nothing to solve your long term problem of being broke. What will the school board do for an encore when they need another million or 2? Find more corruption? They will resort to the old methods of cut cut cut. It's plain that our new School Board majority has no real plan, no clue as to what problems they're trying to solve. Could it be all about the votes? Cracking down on "corruption" does make the news. Let's hope they are bigger than that.

I'd suggest Mr. Greco step up and try to lead here. He should take a step back to understand their responsibilities and why we need them to be successful. Then get to work. Finding a million is great and I wish them luck, but it does little to solve the real problems facing our education system and the reason they're there, the children whose futures hang in the balance.
