Lowenberg, one of eight county champions, won for her story, "Bernard."

Sheehy, one of eight county champions, won for her poem, "Evening Conversation."

DIANE MADE ME DO IT -- Colin McEnroe, the columnist and author, reads proclamation from Gov. M. Jodi Rell declaring Sunday YOUNG WRITERS DAY in the state of Connecticut. McEnroe and Smith, the author and Connecticut Public Television host, also served as Co-Masters of Ceremonies. Along with Shankar and Cooper, they also served as judges for the competition. Smith also serves on the board of the Young Writers Trust.

FROM WARMUP TO ENCORE -- The Jen Allen Big Band warms up with series of tunes: Blue Skies [Tamara Almai], Say A Little Prayer and Respect. Their performance generated audience demand for an encore of those three songs, and they graciously complied to thunderous applause.
