I’m not sure what it is,
but I certainly don’t want to miss it!

-- Hartford Club President Pat Sheehan

    PAT'S MESSAGE:

Bear with me on this -– please consider joining us this Friday at the Club for the historic event of LIVE BOXING in the Ballroom. No kidding.

The event is actually sponsored by the Connecticut Young Writers Trust and the State University System, who stage an annual competition among young poets and writers from schools and colleges around Connecticut. As you may know, the state has a wealth of writing talent, and this year the group has been exploring the region’s sports history -– with a focus on boxing!

This coming Friday, the Clubhouse will be filled with young students, sportswriters, poets and musicians as the Writers Trust approaches its annual scholarship contest deadline with an eclectic event that includes (of course) a Big Band performance with star vocalists at lunchtime ... poetry readings from a REAL boxing ring set up in the Ballroom … an appearance by a celebrated New York police detective who was the real-life hero of one highly-acclaimed book on fighting corruption and the author of another ... all capped off by a [professional boxing exhibition] featuring several star athletes from the region. And in case you were wondering: yes, state-certified schoolteachers will be receiving Continuing Education credits for attending.

I just want to share with you my confusion and delight about the entire event. I’m not sure what it is, but I certainly don’t want to miss it! And I hope you will come by, as well.
