Litchfield-Morris Rotary Donates Thousands To Local, International Groups

Public Invited
To Awards Presentation
Thursday, May 5,
Forman School

The Litchfield-Morris Rotary Club will honor local service groups and hand out cash grants Thursday, May 5, during a luncheon at the Forman School.

The public is invited, but reservations are requested. Call Rotary Club President Peter Aziz at (860) 567-9431. The luncheon begins at noon and there is no charge.

“Our local efforts are again focused on programs that benefit young people, although this year, in response to needs arising from the economy’s impact on individuals and families, we also chose to support initiatives in the areas of health and human services,” Aziz said.

“Our international efforts target the eradication of Polio and a wonderful school for blind children in Ethiopia.”

The club’s donations total more than $7,000 to nine local organizations and two international groups. Recipients include the Forman School general scholarship fund, the towns of Litchfield and Morris social services funds, the Litchfield Performing Art’s jazz camp, the All Wars Memorial (Bantam) capital campaign, the Torrington soup kitchen, the Connecticut Young Writers Trust, the David Paletsky Fund (which provides financial assistance to Morris families), the Litchfield Community Services Fund, Rotary International’s Polio Plus campaign, and the Mekele Blind School in Ethiopia. This is in addition to $6,000 that the Rotary Club awards annually to graduating students at Litchfield and Wamogo high schools.
