Ricardo Reyes is the leader and founder of the Latin alternative band, Cosmic Jibaros.

The Cosmic Jibaros released their first album, Yo Soy Del Mundo, in 2007.

The lead singer, songwriter and guitarist was born in Bridgeport and spent his early years in Puerto Rico before returning to the Park City and earning a Bachelors degree in Business from Sacred Heart University.

Reyes is a founding member of a more traditional Latin project called The Pasofino Social Club. The Pasofino Social Club hosts Caribbean, Boleros and South American Classic Music.

Rick is working on a new album of all original material to be released in the fall of 2011.

The Cosmic Jibaros were featured as the reception band at The Hartford Club in June 2010 for the Connecticut Young Writers Trust’s 13th annual celebration.

Reyes also led a parade in March from the Haircuts Etc. barber shop in Litchfield to the Litchfield Car Wash and then on to La Cupola Ristorante for the Young Writers Dionysiac Deadline Demo, part of an awareness campaign to generate entries for this year’s competition.

Reyes and percussionist Jesse ‘Timbalon’ Perez join the Jen Allen Big Band / Cosmic Jibaros As One Featuring DominiQue June 11 at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain for the Young Writers 14th annual celebration.

About Cosmic Jibaros

The Cosmic Jibaros
Have Effectively Destroyed
The Concept Of A Typical Latin Rock Band

They build From Latin and Caribbean rhythms and have somehow added incredible guitars and accordion flourishes for a sound that’s both cross-cultural and highly danceable.

There’s an irresistible pull of traditional Bomba beats that interplays between the congas and timbales mixed with urban elements in the deep drum and bass and effects-laden guitar work.

These songs are laced with social and political overtones, and are sung primarily in Spanish by charismatic front man Ricardo Reyes.

Somehow, The seven-piece group is equally at home in a rock venue or on a festival stage as in a Spanish Harlem Club.

The Cosmic Jibaros are a collection of Skilled musicians who draw on backgrounds as diverse as gospel (Drummer Chris Stanley), Latin, Roots (Conguero Obanilu Ire Allende); rock (bassist Juan Carlos Vega); Funk, Latin, Jazz (percussionist Tony Cintron); Soul, Rock, and Blues (guitarist Darian Cunning) and pop-rock (keyboard player/accordionist Tony Senes). Lead Singer Ricardo Reyes’ sincerity and stage presence pours his emotions into his songs and makes the heart beat faster.
