Fahrenheit 451 hits Connecticut; Dial O-P-R-A-H

News Note:

CT DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION BANS
"SHE'S COME UNDONE"

Citing sexual explicitness as the "official" reason, CT DOC has pulled from its prison library shelves Wally Lamb’s 21-year old novel about a troubled young woman who goes through hard times and then fixes her life.

Apparently a few sex scenes (tame by today's standards) negate the value of the novel's message about the necessity of personal rehabilitation.

And if that's not absurd enough, DOC has also put on its endangered list I'LL FLY AWAY, a book by York Prison inmates who are students in a writing workshop Lamb has facilitated for the past 14 years, and which was vetted and approved by DOC before its 2007 publication.

A decision on that banning is pending.

Any thoughts?
