ENFIELD - The Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday unanimously approved a special-use permit for a licensed day-care facility at a fitness center on Weymouth Road.

The day-care center, World of Imaginations, is currently located at 1593 King St. and will be moving to the Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness center at 3 Weymouth Road

One of the racquetball courts at the fitness center is being converted into the roughly 3,100-square-foot day-care facility. The center will be staffed by eight part-time and full-time employees.

In other business, the PZC opened a public hearing on a proposed six-month moratorium on all age-restricted housing applications.

The PZC did not vote on the proposal Thursday and decided to continue the public hearing at their next meeting.
The next PZC meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Chambers.

Commission members said they wanted information on what other towns are doing in terms of regulations for age-restricted housing before deciding whether to impose a temporary moratorium.

Commission members suggested looking at regulations such as density restrictions and the number of units allowed in a single development or in the entire town.

Only two residents spoke at the public hearing on the moratorium Thursday.

One of them urged the commission not to impose the temporary moratorium, citing the limited number of affordable living facilities for the elderly in town.

There are currently four approved age-restricted housing developments in town, three of which are under construction, according to Town Planner Jose Giner.

    COOL JUSTICE RULES!!

But for this website, which has served as a medium for the people of the Town of Enfield to let our officials know that "our eyes are on you", the P & Z opted for one of those "alternative" conclusions for their show on Thursday night.

All of us want and expect fair and equal treatment! Nothing more.

If you read the various blogs and comments, whether there about the Sisters, land deals, tax abatements, age restricted, little league or public safety, it all comes down to an outcry for fair and equal treatment!

For all the bloggers, keep up the good work. Cool Justice Rules!

Shout out to the dark side - I have heard that Kathy Tallarita (and we all know from your blog she works at Enfield Federal) has been making calls to save the tax abatement for the bank. Her Brother Mr. mayor recused himself before but has been fighting tooth and nail behind the scene to save this sweet heart deal for the bank. Seems like people are falling for the "this was a miss communication with the bank" line, and don't forget how much community service work Enfield Federal does for the Enfield little league (Enfield Little League I have read something about them recently) that should surely score the bank a few extra reasons to keep the tax break. The Dem's need to do the right thing and vote it down. Cindy Mangini, Pat Crowley and Ken Helinksi will vote to keep it but what will the rest of them DO?????

Why wasn't Cool Justice there to cover the P&Z meeting?

Talk about "Dark Side", just when ya think that the Enfield Dems can't mess things up more, they nominate a candidate for BOE, who's been arrested. Dep Mayor Hilinski said their party ran a background check on all its potential candidates but the check didn't reveal arrest.

Doesn't this make ya wonder about the Enfield Democrats, and more importantly, their screening process. Then again, they're used to "running" family members (siblings, spouses, & children of).

Do Enfield a favor, and pull the Republ lever in November.

Ya mean Mayor T's 3 buddies, "Hear No Evil", "See No Evil, and "Speak No Evil"? And if Mangini's daughter was ever to be elected to public office, what would she be, "Ditto"?

Do you really think for one minute that the "other" Democrats will do the right thing, and vote this down?

Extra Extra read all about it-- the inside information just came in to the mill The Villages LLC and Pat Tallarita OH wait I forgot they keep correcting people his wife are in a new deal together to build off Simon Road. I guess we can assume he decided not to run for council so he could build out this new housing project. Everything done for a reason

    >>> The Villages LLC and Pat Tallarita OH wait I forgot they keep correcting people his wife

This is the Simon Road property that Fredericks recently purchased? The former tainted landfill property where residents have already experienced health concerns? Who in their right mind would opt to build, or better yet, live there?

    >>> Shallow Tiramasu reports the Simon Road property mentioned in recent comments is actually next to the property that was cited for pollution.

Oh, its next to the Scantic River neighborhood where a number of residents were reported ill? That makes one feel a whole lot better cuz how likely is it that particular area (former Starr dumping site) is still active?
If ya believe that, then got some oceanfront property in AZ to sell ya!

As I recall from a previous posting, this Simon Rd property was purchased for over $1 million. So who's holding mortgage, Enfield Federal? Or were Fredericks and Mayor Pat's wife able to pay cash after selling their two new houses off Yale?

The Fredericks are old hands at Enfield development, but think the mayor may have watched too many episodes of "Flip That House".

    >> in a new deal together to build off Simon Road.

Speaking of Simon Rd area, whatever happened to Enfield's big plans to create a Scantic River park there? There's a paved road to the river, but with a big gate across it. Did town plans for that park go bust once the nearby illegal dumping grounds proved to be troublesome?

If this property is now deemed safe to build, would rather see the Town constuct a Scantic River park than a $1 million bikepath to the town dump.
