Reader Asks: Why Isn't Town Manager Public Safety Director?

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Enfield Looking For New Town Attorney":

>>> earns $50,000 annually for the job. In 2005, while serving as interim town manager, took on the role of public safety director.
The council formally named him to the post of public safety director in May 2006, adding another $52,500 to his yearly income.

Atta boy, Mayor Kaupin and his band of merry Republicans. Its about time someone pulled the plug on this questionable "arrangement" since the Town Attorney, slash Town Manager fill-in was appointed by Enfield Dems as a part-time fill-in for Shanley. Remember too, Shanley was also being paid after he was asked to resign. So a lot of cash was leaving the Town.

Once Enfield hired a new Town Manager, something should have been done about this situation (because Shanley also served as the Public Safety Director in his Town Manager position). Why couldn't Coppler take on the responsibilities? Was his starting Town Manager salary that much "less" since he didn't have to cover all Shanley did?

The average Enfield resident doesn't earn $52K a year, let along over a $100K. That kind of salary is totally unneccessary in a town the size of Enfield.

Glad to see the new Town Council is already starting to "clean house". The Dems left quite a messy house so it will take a while. But keep up the good work. The Enfield residents truly appreciate a close eye kept on expenses and the bottom line.

Enfield new mayor, elected by the council. who was elected by 27% of the registered voters. Where did everone go on election day! Is this new mayor that has never been maried, has never had children, a representative of the average Enfield citizen.
Does he know what it is for a husband and wife to go to work every morning and leave their children; so they can afford to pay Enfield high taxes? Never!
    What a mistake.

Well given Enfield's former mayor is married, with children, and is still receiving all kinds of negative press for his behavior (see Courant link), perhaps an unmarried mayor, with no children is a refreshing change. Do you think Enfield's former mayor was a great representative of the average "Enfielder"? Hardly.

Exactly what does the above writer have against unmarried, child-less people? Do you think they're immune to tax increases or making ends meet in tough times? Heck, "single" don't get any tax breaks as married couple do.

Talk about an ignorant, prejudicial statement. Shame on you.

The Republican led Town Council refused to reappoint Tony DiPace to the Planning & Zoning Commission last evening. Another good move to clean up Enfield politics in my opinion!

Looks to me like Anonymous 7:02 p.m. is a bit upset, so he or she (most likely a "he") decided to go negative and take a swip at our new Mayor.

Well, Anonymous 7:02 p.m., you do not know much about Mayor Kaupin. In fact, a better classification is that he is a "single father". Kaupin has helped to raise a teenager over the past few years, so I believe he understands the financial constraints involved with being a parent.

Yippee! Yes, indeed another guttsy move by the new Enfield Town Council. Get these ol'Democratic cronies out of there public office. And keep them out.

    Clearly "Anonymous said... 7:02"
doesn't think before "writing". Why does someone have to be married or a birth parent to hold a public office, or better yet, do a great job. What do you have against single people?

Hope ya realize that your bizarre
comments about Mayor Scot have probably upped his popularity rating amongst townfolks. Keep up the good work w/your insane babble.

Don't much care "who" the Public Safety Officer is in Enfield, as long as they're ready to patrol
a new parking lot proposed for the new Scantic River Park off Hazard Ave.

If Enfield and DEP officials are foolish enough to create a parking lot "down" by the river, out of sight of the main road traffic, ya know it will likely end up like the parking lot in Suffield, along their Canel Bike Path (a popular meeting spot for some "questionable" types).

Its one thing to create a spot for families to enjoy themselves, but
if this parking lot is out of sight, down by the water, well, it doesn't take a genius to know the Enfield cops will be busy "checking" on the activities of some parkers.

Enfield has enough seedy characters hanging around its downtown and shopping centers.
Why has Enfield become a magnet for such?

Don't ya know Enfield is a beacon for "all". Didn't ya see those "inclusive community" signs along Rt 5. "inclusive" means everyone, all kinds. So we're getting all kinds, along with their issues.
