Mt Carmel club often operates like its own "private town" within the town of Enfield. Could it be because many of their members are/were "big wigs" on the Council, in various town depts, commissions, etc. and figure they can "do" whatever they want within "boy's club society"? Appears so.

Back in 2005, an Enfield youth football team was one of the loudest in favor of the Town building expensive artifical turf football fields at the town's 2 high schools. But believe this team now has a field on grounds of Mt Carmel.

Wish MC had made their plans known sooner because it may have saved Enfield taxpayers some green.

There are two different standards. One, for those in the "inner circle" and another for Enfield's "regular Joe-Smoes". A clean sweep isn't enough. Need a
super-duper Dyson vac to rid the town of this mess.

Mt. Carmel offered the Ramblers use of their field so that they would have a home while the high school fields were under construction.

Anyone with a brain should be able to figure that out.

But remember, getting rid of the Ramblers, doesn't fix the fields.

Just because Tallarita & Co. decided to implement the most expensive fix possible doesn't mean that there wasn't a problem. There very clearly was.

In the long run, football teams shouldn't have to rely on the charity of community organizations to provide practice fields, if they have their own.

The fact that there was a problem with the fields doesn't make building "Friday Night Lights" style fields the best solution. But that's a Town of Enfield problem, not a Mt. Carmel problem.

The construction of these new fields brings with it an expectation that Enfield kids will bring home a respectable win-loss record and championship trophies. It is also expected that the will respect the community investment by demonstrating sportsmanship and class on and off the fields.

P&Z's decision to not let the nuns build their parking lot and traffic circle was stupid. The lawsuits were a waste of taxpayer moneys. I am glad that Andy reported on it.

However, I am disappointed at the intellectual laziness that I have seen with this story. As I understand it, the Mt. Carmel parking lot was already paved; all they did is repave it.

The law has always been that once an area is designated as paved parking, you can repave it as many times as you want. That's because a hearing to re-approve what has already been approved is unnecessary.

The fact that the Montessori School did not get its parking lot was not Mt. Carmel's fault; it was the P&Z's fault.

The faulty argument being made is that P&Z = Tony DiPace, and Tony DiPace = Mt. Carmel, therefore, P&Z = Mt. Carmel. That's faulty logic. By that logic, Emperor's VIP Club = Eliot Spitzer, and Eliot Spitzer = The Democratic Party, therefore Emperor's VIP Club = The Democratic Party. Do you see why this doesn't work?

The intellectual laziness is that no one on this site is backing up their facts.

Instead, they are allowed to cast aspersions that Mt. Carmel benefited from an illegal parking job.

If it's illegal, won't the proof be in the pudding. Let's see the evidence of illegal paving at Mt. Carmel! Have any of you gone out there to compare the area paved to the area on the site plan?

If all you can back it up with are rumors, then aren't you, by definition, full of s%¡†?

Correct if this was repaving not new paving. Extending the lot past original boundaries requires permits. More than the original lot was paved. Go look.

Where did the money($50,000-$100,000 easy) come from and who did the work? MC doesn't have that kind of cash. The records are somewhere. Are they a nonprofit? Are a nonprofit's books open to public scrutiny?

What was this meeting at town hall? Who was there? Who knows?

This is shady if not outright illegal.

Remember part of the Montesori arguement was settled with old pictures taken from the air. I looked at a satelite internet websight and the picture shows the pavement I remember from the italian festival with all the dirt parts and gravel. If more than the original tar is paved then they needed permits? Here is the internet websight so you can see too. You have to type the address 89 Park Avenue, Enfield, CT and zoom in a lot. http://maps.google.com/maps

If it looks different than the picture shows then the questions are legitimite?

MCarmel repaved all the existing blacktop. Then they paved all of the gravel area and some of what was grass and dirt. It doesn't sound like a "repaving" job. Uh oh! It isn't such a rumor anymore.

    What was this meeting?

I looked. Its paved in places where it wasn't paved so much before, by a lot.

The Enfield Ramblers are a privately funded youth group so they need to rely on community organization. they're not part of the Enfield Recreation dept. my tax $$$$ aren't to be support their enjoyment. they shouldn't be on the tax supported, renovated public school fields. heck the Town won't ever let the Fermi and Enfield high students on their own fields for graduation. Ramblers can stay @ Mt Carmel's private field.

The big ones fall and keep falling and Mt Caramel must be proud of their members.

Remember when mayor Tat was tossed from office and then his own town committee. Now his sister is getting the same because Lou Fiore, one time Tat best friend and deputy mayor, announced he's after her seat in the state legislature.

Remember exP&Z chief Tony? He took over the Democratics and in his first meeting as prez he blew a major gasket and had members running for the door. The word from downtown is an impeachment is coming before he hurts somebody.

Mt Caramel must be proud of their boys. Because of them the spotlight is on the bingo money and now their new parking lot. Some special state boys are making calls again. Who says no one watches the blogs.
