Enfield Wise Man Say, "Be Nice To Students"

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Enfield School Issues Abound":

"Its not the students fault that Enfield officials installed a synthetic surface on the football fields that can't withstand a graduation ceremony.

Perhaps the students should have been consulted before that surface was installed???"

Enfield officials should listen more closely to their students wishes, and then perhaps an alum may some day "reward" Enfield schools, the same way a Suffield High alum is.

Recently a Suffield High alum donated a new million $$ synthetic athletic field to Suffield High.

Pays to be nice to your students because one never knows.

Boy, what a wonderful gesture from an appreciative Suffield alum. Here the Enfield taxpayers were duped into spenting millions on a Fermi High field that can't be used for the students' graduation ceremony (because it could damage the new synthetic surface).

If I was an Enfield student, I'd
seriously wonder what the heck the BOE and Town officials were thinking when they redesigned these athletic fields. And if I was the parent of an Enfield student, I'd think twice before I vote in favor of anymore 1/2 baked ideas.

Maybe it would be a good idea if the folks in Enfield, talked to
the folks in Suffield before they break ground on the Enfield High School athletic fields?

Maybe the Suffield High synthetic field will be more durable than the flimsy Fermi High field, and theirs will permit students (and their parents) to stand and sit on it during a graduation ceremony?

Just a thought. Had Enfield officials asked more questions prior to the drawn out Fermi field renovations, maybe they would have selected a more durable surface?

Isn't that a novel concept. Being "nice" to students. Would think that
    a no-brainer, but guess not.

Had to wonder when I read a recent article in the Enfield Reminder, http://www.remindernews.com/node/7/&town=enfield&url=ENF-2008-03-04-12-Ar01200
regarding Enfield High's athletic fields. The article states:

"The artificial turf field will be constructed with the same three layers, except the top 3 inches will be composed of the turf itself and the filler material supporting it.
“It’s equivalent to having three full fields, because we can play a football game, and an hour later play a soccer game, and an hour after that play field hockey,” said McAlmond.
In between those contests, they will only need some time to clean the field. There is a preventive maintenance program that should be carried out every four or five years. “

No where in the article does it state that this surface could not "support" an activity such as a graduation ceremony. Why is that?

Think about it, Enfield students and their taxpaying parents. If this surface is so tough that can be used for a football game, then an hour later, a soccer game, and then an hour after that, a field hockey game, how is it it can't withstand the chairs for students to sit upon? Or they're walking to receive their diplomas.

Who's fooling who here?? The majority of students @ Enfield High and Fermi High do not play football, soccer or field hockey. Does that mean they'll never have the opportunity to set foot on these $$$ million dollar fields?

    That's almost criminal.

Hey, whatever happened to all the Enfield/T-ville brainstorming? I have been away for awhile, so was disappointed to see this a.m. that discussions re: renovating T-ville,
the BOE budget drama, the tipper barrel controversy, graduation sites, as well as usual Enfield banter has fallen silent.

Ain't this typical. Lots of hot air and hoopla, but nothing of any worth, materializes.

Hello, is anyone out there in Enfield? Now that elections are over, does anyone care?? Hello?
