Thanks for the heads-up re: this new Enfield road. Funny how for many, many years the Enfield Town Dump was on Town Farm Rd. But now its on Ecology Rd? How did the Town create a new road, or better yet, why did Enfield create a new road for the Town Dump?
My guess would be that if someone was told the Enfield Town Dump was on Ecology Rd, they'd have no idea "where" Ecology Rd in Enfield is.
Just another bureaucratic waste of time in good ol'Enfield.

Checked Google Earth, and sure enough a Ecology Drive is listed
off Town Farm Rd (right where the dump is).
Now wouldn't that just make perfect sense for good ol'Enfield -to go labelling an existing "drive" with a new name. The Enfield Town Dump has been "on" Town Farm Rd for as long as anyone can remember. What the heck is this Ecology Drive all about? Does this mean that all the town and state DOT directories needs to be changed to include a new road, or Town Dump letterhead, etc.?
Since this new "road" occurred under Cocoa's "mayoring", let this be part of his legacy. Allowing a new road to be "invented. Unreal.
(Maybe someone is looking to build condos or new homes on that property some day. When it finally becomes the Town's recreation area?)
Don't know about the rest of Enfield residents, but I'll still be bringing my refuse to Town Farm Rd for "dumping".
> Cocoa Puffs Legacy
Shame shame once again on the Enfield Town Council and BOE for overlooking the accomplishments of the Fermi High School boys and girls soccer teams. Both soccer teams qualified once again for the State tourney, but all the Council and BOE were worried about, was making sure the Enfield and Fermi football teams would be able to play Thanksgiving on the multi $ million football field. Whoopie doo ... football is only a big deal to a very few in Enfield. Doesn't compare to teams making State tourney play.
Even if one combined the total wins for both the Enfield and Fermi football teams, they wouldn't exceed the wins for the Fermi boys soccer team.
Its a real shame that Mayor Cocoa & crew didn't take the opportunity to recognize Enfield's teams that made the State tourney and that they'd be more deserving of playing "first" on this new athletic field. Cocoa really missed the boat in our eyes. But then again, he missed the boat on a number of important issues. That's why he's on the outside, now.
Google this!
Go to the Town of Enfield web site
and you'll see the Town Dump is listed as being on Town Farm Rd.
There's no mention of this new Ecology Rd or Ecology Drive.
The Enfield T\town dump address is listed as follows under the Leaf Program Update - "Leaves can also be brought to the Enfield Transfer Station on Town Farm Road for no charge."
Check it out for yourself @

Didn't Enfield just get a new Public Works Director? Maybe he can explain the naming of the existing "driveway" to the town dump? Or maybe newly elected Mayor Kaupin can shed some light on this?
Perhaps Enfield qualifies for more State aid, if they have more roads?
So maybe they'll simply start naming more existing "driveways"?
I'm betting the this newly-named Ecology Drive is somehow tied into the proposed $1+ million dollar, 1 mile bike path Enfield is planning. Talk about another major waste of money and time for Enfield residents. We need a lot more important things than this bike path on Town Farm Rd.
Anyone wanna bet that someone thought it looked better for the bike path to travel past a "Ecology Drive"? Just not sure what's so "ecology" about the town dump?
This is up there with the driveway to Jablonski public works being called Lego Dr. God help the people who turn there thinking it will take them to Lego.
What's next from the masters of PC propaganda? Diversity Drive? Peace Place? Love Lane? Affirmative Action Alley? Workers' Welfare Way? Socialism Street?
It sends the wrong message to waste this kind of money in a year when money's tight.
This is the first that I have heard about "Ecology Drive", and I have asked some questions. Once I have an answer, I will let you know. Feel free to e-mail me any questions at scottkaupin@cox.net.
By the way, the Town of Enfield will pay the State of Connecticut $1 per year for the use of the fields behind Asnuntuck CC. The lease is for 20 years with an option for an additional 20 years. The lease language called for a "cost" and we agreed to $1 per year. Thanks.
Here is a response provided by our Police Department:
"Back around 1994 or so the name of "Ecology Drive" was given to the driveway due to State of Connecticut 911 requirements. The statute required an address go with every location that had a telephone. There are phone lines at our cable site and DPW building, thus, the requirement to put a name with the driveway / street. We simply named it Ecology Drive for 911 purposes at the time, I am not sure I would call that very official, but that is how it came to be called that."
I'm still checking to see if a street sign actually needs to be posted there.
As for Lego Way, at one point it did, in fact, lead to a Lego Dist. Center that is located behind the Public Works Complex and thus the name of the road. That building is now Cuno's but the road is still there and actively used by the existing business.
> By the way, the Town of Enfield will pay the State of Connecticut $1 per year for the use of the fields behind Asnuntuck CC.
& Who's responsible for maintaining these athletic fields behind Asnuntuck? Is the State maintaining them once they "own" the property, or is the Town of Enfield still responsible (as they have in the past?)
If the Town is only paying a $1 to State to lease, there's likely a hitch (cost of maintaining) somewhere.
>> "Back around 1994 or so the name of "Ecology Drive" was given to the driveway due to State of Connecticut 911 requirements.
Back in 1994? So it took over 13 years for Enfield implement this State 911 requirement? And who's office would be responsible for following through on this? Public Safety? Public Works?
Good luck there, Mr Mayor. Appears you've got your hands full cleaning up Enfield "old" issues before you can even begin to tackle any "new" ones.
> What's next from the masters of PC propaganda? Diversity Drive? Peace Place? Love Lane?
Don't ya know, Enfield already has a "Lovely" Lane or Drive. Its right off Steele Rd. Next to Hudson.
Wow, Enfield's newly elected Mayor is not only checking out Andy's blog, but he's participating as "himself". That's certainly a refreshing change. Maybe things are really looking up for Enfield. Fingers crossed.
Go get'em Mayor Scott!

well it looks pretty darn tooting "official" to bypassers. its a new sign sitting on a new pole. anyone travelling by would likely assume its a "real" street from the looks of the setup.
its nice to see Enfield's Public Safety Director is earning his keep.
OK, I posted a third response this afternoon, but it did not make it on to this thread yet.
The driveway or "road" was "named" back in 1994 when the new 911 requirements went in to place. According to the Town Manager's Office, a street sign was posted at some point in time, but it went MIA. The Highway Department placed a new sign there three months ago which resulted in all the new questions. I'm still asking if we really need to keep that street sign as part of the 911 requirements.
Oh, the name Ecology Drive was "picked" by the Police Department because another town in Connecticut had their transfer station or dump off of Ecology Drive. They always intended this name to be an internal thing for the 911 system and never thought that the driveway would be posted with a street sign.
Yes, the Town of Enfield will be maintaining the fields behind Asnuntuck since they will be used by the Town of Enfield for our recreation programs.
> Yes, the Town of Enfield will be maintaining the fields behind Asnuntuck since they will be used by the Town of Enfield for our recreation programs.
Sorry, but still believe the State of the CT got the deal of the century here. The State basically "stole" 36 acres and the Asnuntuck building for a lowly $2 million. And the Town of Enfield will continue to maintain the fields and grounds. Plus, pay the State a $1 to lease the fields they're maintaining. The State should be paying Town of Enfield for maintaining State grounds.
Cuz Enfield is basically the "care taker" for State property now.
Wanna place bets whether Asnuntuck Community College is still residing on this property 20 years from now, or if its turned into some kind of prison facility to handle the ever increasing overcrowding problems?
Enfield should have never agreed to selling this prime piece of property to the State.
Hey, its not just Enfield's Mayor Scott participating here, but also newly elected member, Jason Jones. Word must be out in Enfield that Andy's blog is the place to be "seen" and "heard".

The contract with the State of Connecticut was signed some 20 years ago, and in that contract the "option to buy" price was set at $2 million. We have a legally binding contract for the sale and must honor it. We may not like the price, but we agreed to it a very long time ago.
The Town of Enfield will maintain the fields since we are the user of the fields. Paying $20 and maintenance costs over 20 years is a bargain versus having to develop new fields to meet the demands of our recreation programs.
We should all hope that Asnuntuck CC is here in Enfield for a very long time. I believe it is the community college experiencing the largest student population growth in the system, something we all should be proud of. To have a community college located in Enfield is a big plus for our residents and the businesses located here.
> experiencing the largest student population growth in the system, something we all should be proud of. To have a community college located in Enfield is a big plus for our residents and the businesses located here.
Yes, Asnuntuck has "shown" the highest increase in enrollments, but its still one of the lowest enrolled community colleges in CT. There's no getting around that fact. And I don't believe Enfield has ever truly embraced the fact that its a home to a college - unlike Manchester does with MCC.
While their parents may opt for there, most young Enfielders are embarassed to say they'd want to go there. They're rather go to STCC or Manchester.
ACC's popular academic programs could easily be moved to Manchester CC IF the State was looking to cut back on education expenditures (why pay for two community college presidents in a 20 miles radius?)
Am not looking for Asnuntuck to close it doors, but in the long run, during tough fiscal times, it could be consolidated w/Manchester CC.
Do you remember when the State elected to do so with the 2-year technical community colleges?
>> (why pay for two community college presidents in a 20 miles radius?)
Two college presidents? Check your maps, cuz there are 3 community colleges within 20 miles of each other, and certainly many of the Asnuntuck programs could be consolidated into MCC or Capital
Community w/o too much trouble.
Enfield is not a "college town" and never will be. Its a former farmland, bedroom community that recently has become the social services center of north central CT.
Ya don't hear about Suffield, Somers, East Windsor, or Windsor Locks spending money on the homeless, and needy. When did Enfield become the dumping grounds for the regions socially disadvantaged?
Maybe Asnuntuck needs to offer a Social Work program?
>> Both soccer teams qualified once again for the State tourney, but all the Council and BOE were worried about, was making sure the Enfield and Fermi football teams would be able to play Thanksgiving on the multi $ million football field.
Right on. The CCC all conference teams were just announced, and there a number of Fermi soccer players on it, from both the girls and boys teams. Since these kids were playing on winning Enfield teams, that made State tournament, they should have had the opportunity to play a game on this new field BEFORE the football teams.
Recently there was a letter to Enfield Press editor from a disgruntled Fermi student who said the Fermi student body was very unhappy about the Town's TDay athletic field festivities. Some didn't think the Enfield High students should have been included because this is the Fermi field.
Well, this Fermi field and the new Enfield HIgh athletic field are the Enfield taxpayers' athletic fields. The students may be the primary users but it was paid for by the Enfield taxpayers. And I don't believe too many high schoolers qualify yet for that "honor". Not yet anyway.
