  • LITCHFIELD — Dan Malloy, Democratic candidate for governor will speak at La Cupola Ristorante in Litchfield [Thursday] at 12 p.m.

Malloy will be introduced by Register Citizen Editor, Jordan Fenster and will speak briefly and take questions from 12:15 to 12:45. Malloy will also be available before and after he speaks to meet with guests.

Katie Weiser, a music major at Smith College and a graduate of Litchfield High School, will sing the National Anthem.

Malloy has spoken out recently about the state’s energy problems as well as the Department of Public Utility Control’s decision to reduce Connecticut Light &Power’s requested rate increase by nearly half, to less than 14 percent.

In recent months Malloy has spoken out against the proposed rate increases, and has called for a comprehensive statewide effort to promote energy efficiency, lower consumption, invest in renewable energy, and drive down electricity prices. A final decision from DPUC is expected at the end of the month.

“This is a decent start, but I will continue to urge DPUC to deny CL&P’s requested increase outright,” Malloy said. “At a time when Connecticut consumers are paying the highest electric rates in the continental United States we simply should not allow CL&P to overburden them further.”

Cost of the event is $20. Rotary members and guests are welcome. RSVP @ tntcomm82@cs.com or 860-690-0211.
