    Young Writers Celebration

    Reservations must be made by [Wednesday, June 8] to attend the annual Young Writers Celebration, to be held on June 11 at Central Connecticut State University.

    The annual awards ceremony honors the statewide winners of the prose and poetry competitions for students ages 13 to 18. A reception with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar from 5 to 6:15 p.m. precedes the 6:30 p.m. ceremony.

    Special guests are award-winning writers, poet Patricia Smith and her husband Bruce DeSilva, former writing coach for The Courant and Associated Press, whose debut crime novel, "Rogue Island," recently won a coveted Edgar Award. The Connecticut Youth National Poetry Slam Team, led by Elizabeth Thomas, and Charlotte Crowe, the competition's 2005 prose champion, are also among the guests.

    Co-masters of ceremonies are author Rand Richards Cooper, TV personality and author Diane Smith and poet and CCSU professor Ravi Shankar. The Jen Allen Big Band will play.
